We had a ton of fun working on this. Tracked mostly at Utopia Bearsville, Fun Room South and The Jam Shack it has been an absolute joy to see this boy find his voice. we experimented a lot and many difficult decisions were made. James is a harsh self-editor but he really nailed this..(2nd try). He gave me a lot of freedom to get original flavors and try to honor our appreciation for off kilter production. I got to play bass, drums, guitar and I even snuck a few hot harms in. I think we're lookin pretty good.
This record kicks ass. We tracked this to tape completely live (even lead vocals) in one room, little iso, at Kirton Farm. We rehearsed for weeks in the garage to make it tight, especially vocals and harms. It really paid off, the takes were golden and the songs (already great!) reached another level. Fun Fact; Days of the Years is the demo from the garage rehearsal...we couldn't beat it.
Recorded and mixed over many months at The Old Scooberdome in Cornwall by Adam and myself. This has some truly timeless songs and scapes on it. Just a few notes brings me right back. Her voice, that sound, the odd guitar flavor and the interesting production moves. I'm not sure there's another record I've worked on that has this kind of feel. I can't put my finger on it.
This was about the coolest shit I'd ever heard at the time. We had just put the studio together (Scooberdome) and we were hearing sounds back for the first time. wow what a thrill. Having Adam and Doug on drums is intoxicating. Then Kristín Anna Valtysdóttir shows up and sings like only she can... brings it to a new, unfamiliar place. Adam played almost every instrument on here and made each song up as he went along. Classic Mice Parade.
Krista finishes more songs in an hour then I will start in a lifetime. She gave me full reign on this so I had a lot of fun framing these songs out and adding elements that seemed to fit. Tracked mostly at Kirton Farm and The Jam Shack I play drums, bass, guitar and keys. I like the moody elements of some of these storyscapes and the playful nature of others. The amazing Kim Nicholas added the horn arrangements also recorded at Kirton Farm.
....this is a special one. I recorded most of these guitars and vocals. This was an important record for FatCat and the Rabbits were doing it with Peter Katis at Tarquin. He had a schedule conflict so Adam asked me to continue tracking at The Scooberdome. They were just young lads at the time and I didn't really know them. We got on well and I really liked the songs but i honesty had no idea what I was involved with. i miss Scott
The one that started it all. Jan 2006 this scrawny kid comes into Bearsville led by his brother and a bad motherfucker named "Chicken". I set him up with my Martin D1, a few mics and off he goes. The first words I ever heard him say were "coffee and eggs"....I knew he was good but the songs just kept coming. and getting better! Tracked to tape and mastered directly off that tape. Little did I know what it would lead to
The "Bruiser"...he's got that special Grand Forks North Dakota Drawl and writes in a modern classic style. Adam and I recorded Tom at the Old Scooberdome and Adam added perfect flavors and his Mice Parade sensibilities to Tom's music. I think I even played some guitar, bass and sang a harmony or two. My memory is a little fuzzy but I sure do like the feel of this record. I love Tom, I'd sure like to make more records with him.
Saw these kids at a battle of the bands in Woodstock, 2006. I was VERY impressed. drums & bass & vocals. Damn he could sing! DAMN she could play! She looked like a 10yr old but hit like Sheila E. I think Frankie had to borrow a guitar to record this. Done mostly Live in Bearsville Studio B. Classic!
John G is Hog Bucket and a great writer. He assembled a great cast of musicians to record this up in Stillwater NY at Black Dog. We recorded and mixed on the old Sphere console in residence there. Dan Sheron from Balto played some guitar and sang some. We cut as live as we possibly could and I actually forgot how much fun I had making this record as well as how great these tracks sound. We left a lot of space in the mix and I like the that. some of these tunes are downright haunting. That's a real echoplex
Before Allison Olender embarked on her illustrious solo career she was in a band called Upstate Rubdown fronted by 3 gals who sang marvelously together. As a side project they wrote/arranged these songs. We recorded this masterpiece at Kirton Farm around a single M/S setup. It's only on bandcamp but it's GREAT! Go get it
The follow up to From The Air from Mshanghai String Band, this was recorded at The Clive Davis Studio at NYU. Recorded over a weekend using a pair of coles 4038's in Blumlein. All completely live, i don't believe there were any overdubs. The songs are amazing on this record. Matt, Philippa and Austin were the main writers at that time and these songs speak for themselves.
Sean sent me 5 of these songs to mix and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I'm so pumped for him and the heat he's been getting with this. Voted top 10 of 2024 by KLOF mag. Great guy, great songs. He put a lot of time and thought into this. The follow up is gonna be even better!
A collection of songs from "Reins" and a few cut at Scooberdome and Clubhouse. When we recorded Rockefeller they brought in a Vox amp that was the most fucked up thing I had ever seen. I was told it fell out of the bus onto the FDR, was hit and later retrieved. I recorded "Hammer" at the Bearsville theater and I begged them to include it. I'm glad they did, I think that song has been inspirational to some
Super cool. Mostly recorded at The Old Scooberdome but a lot of guest appearances and guest engineering. Most noteworthy mention goes to Robert "Doc" Laakso who was a great friend of Adam's, played in Swirlies and is sorely missed. 2 songs were mixed by Peter Katis and Doug Scharin plays drums on 2 songs. MG from Gregory and the Hawk also appears here along with many other guest vocalists
I mixed a live version of Chuck's song High as Johnny Thunders for a Southwest / San Francisco promo video featuring a ton of great players from the area and Aaron Lee Tasjan on guitar. It was fun and came out great. It can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXXuoZtLl3Q
I first met Eamon in 2013 recording the Hogbucket record with John Glouchevitch and we recorded several songs at The Old Scooberdome which made it onto this record. I really like his sound and the way he brings an early Pink Floyd meets Badfinger soul to bear on his music. oh and he's a monster guitar player too
The Sweethearts came to Kirton Farm in 2019 and ROCKED! It's great the way Kevin and Ryan's guitar parts jigsaw together. We tracked this mostly live because everyone was so rehearsed. Only a few overdubbed parts as cats couldn't be in two places at once. Mixed at the Jam Shack and if memory serves I even sang some back up vocals on this. The next one's gonna be even better!
A mix of shit, practically a greatest hits of the time. Some real slap dick recordings done for Adventures (on my tascam 4 track) and some higher fi tracks done at The Chicken Coop and Dark Mansion. If you listen closely you can tell what was done where. Songs like Frankie's Gun and Tenderly were quick cash grabs done for merch and songs like Greatest Show and Goddamn you Jim were more planned out, done at Dark Mansion thru a Yamaha DM2000. Cuts like Little Anne and Murder were pure premeditated coop shit.
Nate at Team Love asked me to do this and it was an honor. His idea was to record it in a natural setting. I had just purchased my home by Lake Minnewaska so we set up in various locations outside and recorded her voice & guitar live. There were a few overdubs added afterword, mostly flute and harmony vocals. Her melodies are just transport me and the harmonies are just remarkable. Mixed at the Old Scooberdome. I love this record
We cut this at Kirton Farm as we were just getting set up. The whole first day i was still running tie lines and setting up cue stations. It was hectic, but they were champs! It took forever but we ended up with a great record. This is a talented batch of musicians and a talented group of writers. I especially love Nick and Erica's harms. My fav on this record is Another Long Drive. Can someone PLEASE write a movie for this song?!?!
Recorded at The Old Scooberdome with Icelandic Legend Skuli Sverrisson! it was a joy to record these songs and be a part of it. Oláf is a unique talent and i hope to hear more from her soon
Dirt. Bag.
Recorded at Kirton Farm over the course of 100 years. this collection started as an EP, then grew into a box set, was then thrown in the garbage and finally recovered and released as an LP. Thank god. Amazing journeys of song craft.
After we mixed October's Road at the High School Studio in Beacon Dan assembled a hot band and we booked Dreamland in Kingston. We cut 6 songs live over a weekend. Those were some late nights! After being crushed for 7 days with Salmonella (COOK YOUR CHICKEN PEOPLE) Dan and I convened in Oregon and mixed this. That was a great lineup and made a great record. Dan's a talented cat.
This project started when Adam saw Curtis playing songs live with a looper and wanted to release a record of those songs in that loop style. Curtis offered me a $100 bottle of Lagavulin to convince Adam to let him cut the songs multitracked, which I did. He bought me the bottle which I promptly dropped, shattered and wasted! This record however, is WORTH EVERY DROP of wasted scotch.
This was recorded mostly out in Omaha at ARC owned by Mogis and Oberst. We rehearsed like hell, fine tuned, loaded up, played some shows on the way and stayed in Nebraska long enough to cut 12 songs to tape and buy a Honda ATC 200ES. When we got back we cut Cherry Licorice at the Artfarm in Accord. Mixed at Scooberdome by Uncle Val. There are about 25 things I would change on this record if I could
Recorded during 2009-10 at the Old Scooberdome, this the 2nd G&T.H. record for FatCat. Adam added classic Mice Parade indie rock sensibilities and rare instrumentation. What's to say about working with MG? is a most gifted writer and singer. How she got these intimate and mesmerizing sounds out of those little shit box guitars I may never know.
I barely made it onto this recording but had to list it cuz it's so bad ass! Kevin was gone for a day doing a show and asked me to sub in at their studio which i gladly did. We tracked about 3 or 4 songs and did a bunch of overdubs. what a concept. What a genius idea to cover this classic record... of covers!
Bondy's a bad motherfucker. We recorded most of these songs straight to tape at the Chicken Coop with the Felices but it was a confusing time. Most of them were later re-cut but a few were used from that session. Josh Rawson named this record by mis-hearing a lyric. Loose not "lose"
Partially recorded in Curtis' basement and The Old Scooberdome in Cornwall, this was fun to do. It sounds like a sensitive and reflective look back at troubled times. Adele Schulz lends backup vocals and Adam and Doug Scharin play the drums. Mixed at Scooberdome.
Recorded and Mixed at the Old Scooberdome in Cornwall NY. Adam's guitar tone on Currents has to be one of the all time best I've ever recorded. So perfect. Contrasted with Caroline's sweet voice. and drums?! it was kind of impressive how good that little drum room sounded.
Frankie's got soul and attitude for days. Great writer and lyricist. We recorded this at Kirton Farm with rotating cast of drummers, Sammi, Frankie and Adam Pierce. We had a blast re-amping various tracks thru the PA with guitar pedals on the FX sends. lo fi fun
James Felice recorded all these tracks in their Hudson rehearsal garage and then brought them to me to mix at Kirton Farm. Needless to say I was pretty impressed with the songs and the recordings, Jimmy did a good job. Management was so impressed how well the mixes came out that they sprang for mastering at Bob Ludwig's Gateway.
G LAN! Former guitar player with Old Crow Medicine Show, we made this record at the Felice's Chicken Coop in New Paltz. I barely knew G Lan but he had some great songs and we collaborated with James and the boys to cook up some tracks. Had a lot of fun doing this.
Adam and I produced this with Krista. She's writes about 2.7 songs per day. I've never seen anyone quite so prolific. I think she wakes up and reads the dictionary for fun while sipping coffee. Not a joke
I think this was recorded at the Old Scooberdome in Cornwall but MG did some on her own too. I don't recall who mixed it but I do know Sleeping States is my fav. I Produced the shit outta that song. I still love it
I tracked this at Kirton Farm in Germantown in 2017. Crushing tones, nasty delivery and high energy from Brooklyn. These gals were good, fast, well prepared and knew what they wanted. no bullshit
Phillip and the guys are great. We cut this at the Old Scooberdome in Cornwall for FatCat. It took about a week. I tracked this and Peter Katis mixed the shit out of it. sounds amazing to listen to today. I miss these guys
Recorded in Kerhonkson at a place we called "Triage", an old dilapidated dining hall in a former Shakespeare Camp. Spring of 2006. I brought in all the recording equipment, ran 100 yards of elec cord thru the woods and these songs were perfectly framed by the scene. Inception of Felice Bros. I played drums, bass and sang backup. some were overdubbed and re-cut in Gardiner. hidden track Lou recorded in the kitchen. That's a box of camp silverware being dumped. Deep times
This band BURNS!! I Recorded this in Philly back in 2013 for FatCat Records. The Band were on US tour playing a sold out show at Union Transfer. It was an incredible show, they about burned the place down. So young, so full of power. fantastic snapshot of them in that time and place, I was lucky to be involved. Mixed by Andrew Bush.
Fabulous record, fabulous songs and fabulous ensemble. I had never seen anything quite like them. Listen to the title track which opens with a small ensemble while about 12 people stand silently in the background waiting to explode. We recorded this totally live in Bearsville Studio B. Full band (about 15 players) in front of an M/S setup. Mixed to perfection by Richard Morris
